#BLOGMAS: Winter beauty essentials

Tuesday, 6 December 2016

Winter is definitely one of the harshest seasons when it comes to your skin. Here are a few essentials I can't live without over the colder months!
A few essential winter beauty products and winter beauty tips you mustn't live without!

Moisturiser

A good moisturiser is essential all year round, but even more so when the air is cold and frosty, as it dries your skin out massively. You can get away with a heavier moisturiser in winter as you tend to sweat less when it's cold, and your skin needs the extra moisture! Make sure to choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type - avoid oil-based lotions if you have greasy skin!

Stay hydrated

So water isn't strictly a beauty product, but it's definitely essential! Whilst your skin is more prone to dryness when the weather isn't as nice, it's important to keep on top of drinking water in order to hydrate your body and skin. I am so guilty of not drinking enough water, and I am already paying for it this winter!

Lip scrubs

I know some people are conflicted about lip scrubs and whether they really work, but we all know that chapped lips are almost a given when the seasons turn over into winter. You don't have to pay through the nose for lip scrubs - I made my own practically for free with stuff I had at home! You can use sugar, coconut oil or almond oil and pop it in an empty lip balm container. It will help buff off the dead skin cells and allow new ones to grow. Lush also sell a beautiful bubblegum flavoured one!

Lip balm

Again, not sure how effective these are... I've heard a lot of rumours that lip balm companies but something in their products that purposely dries out your lips, meaning you become more dependent on the lip balm to stay hydrated! Either way, I use lip balm as a part of my daily makeup and beauty routine to keep my lips soft and to try and prevent me from picking all the dead skin off (gross but also, who doesn't do that?!)

Hand cream

I'll be honest, I am not a big fan of hand creams at all... I think they make my hands feel oily and dirty and I just do not enjoy using them! However I find that, in winter especially, my hands and cuticles become so dry and sore that I have to moisturise them somehow. I prefer a very light, thin cream that absorbs into my skin instantly so it doesn't feel like my hands are covered in slime.

  1. Lip balm is at the top of my winter essentials! My lips always get cracked when the first bit of cold hits!
